Our Founder & Lead Instructor.
Mayumi Hayakawa
She spent her early childhood in Singapore, where she was raised in a multicultural environment while attending both local and Japanese schools. At the age of 16, she moved to the United States to attend a prestigious New England prep school.
She later majored in Interior Design at California State University. After interning at a world-renowned design firm that specializes in high-end hotels, she was hired as a designer and contributed to numerous international projects. Upon returning to Japan, she joined Sumitomo Corporation, where she managed large-scale real estate projects both domestically and abroad. She also contributed to the education sector by developing an innovative curriculum for an Interior Design department at a Japanese college.
After the birth of her son, she was inspired to focus on cultivating globally-minded children, and in 2010, she founded 2 Bilingual International Preschool in Tokyo. She developed a unique bilingual program (English & Japanese) that integrated martial arts, Japanese culture, and intercultural understanding, nurturing many globally-minded individuals. In 2017, the school was successfully transferred to an educational corporation.
Later, while living in the Netherlands, she provided Japanese language education and early childhood support to local children, fostering their growth in a multicultural setting. Today, she continues to leverage her extensive experience in Okinawa, Japan, offering consulting services in Japanese language education, bilingual education, and early childhood education.
Mayumi Hayakawa’s life and career illustrate the impact of cross-cultural experiences on personal and professional development. Her work in education, particularly in fostering bilingualism and cultural understanding, reflects her vision of nurturing future cosmopolitans who can thrive in a globalized world while maintaining their cultural identity.
